(긴급) 테러 음모 적발

 

Case cracked. The suspect at the center of a terror plot admits ties with Al Qaeda. Breaking news in an FBI terror investigation. CBS News has learned that a man at the center of it Najibullah Zazi is now admitting ties to terrorists. Terrorism investigation. Authorities believe they’re unraveling 해결하다 a terrorism plan with possible ties halfway across the country. There is late breaking news tonight involving a high-profile terrorism investigation that has stretched from here in New York all the way to the Rocky Mountains. Authorities have been questioning a man at the center of the investigation. And based on what they’re learning, they now believe they might have disrupted what could’ve been a dangerous terrorism cell. Our justice correspondent Pete Williams in our Washington newsroom gathering details on this story. Pete? Good evening.

 

Brian? For months, federal agents have had an immigrant from Afghanistan with suspected terrorist connections under surveillance fearing that he was planning some kind of attack in the US. Tonight, officials say he is beginning to talk. The case burst into public view early this week when police and FBI agents searched four apartments in New York. They acted after a man from suburban Denver Najibullah Zazi drove a rented car to New York late last week fearing that he could be plotting some kind of attack, they searched every apartment he visited.

 

In the rented car officials say, agents found a laptop computer that contained directions for making bombs. No explosives were found in the New York searches or in his Denver area apartment and a house he once lived in there. But since Wednesday he’s been interviewed for hours by the FBI. And tonight officials say that while he denies planning to stage attacks in the US, he has admitted attending a terror training camp in Pakistan. US officials say he had contacts there with associates of Al Qaeda.

 

An intensive federal investigation is well underway. Agents have checked dozens of Denver area hardware stores to see if Zazi has bought any of the bomb ingredients listed in the laptop. And based on the laptop discovery, the nation’s airport screeners were advised earlier this week to look for signs that passengers might have handled some of those ingredients. Zazi lives with his parents immigrants from Afghanistan who’ve been saying he is no terrorist. But officials now say he is telling a different story.

There’s no comment tonight from ZAzi’s lawyers in Denver and it’s important to emphasize, Brian, that no charges have been filed.
