Weather alert now. Big parks of Dixie(남부 여러 주의 별명) covered in mud and muddy flood waters. Many folks taking advantage of the break in the rain now return to try to salvage구조 what’s left. And these people are having a rough time. Would you look at that? The heavy rains have killed according to authorities at least ten people including a 2-year-old child. Officials say most of the deaths were from cars that were swept off flooded roads.

 

Wide spread flooding affecting folks in Tennessee, down into Alabama, parts in North Carolina. Really though the hardest hit, Atlanta, Georgia, and Atlanta specifically where officials say $ 250 million in damage so far. See that Austell there? Mary Anne Silver is live there just west of Atlanta north and west 20 miles outside of town. Mary Anne? Wow! The water is still crazy.

 

It is still crazy. It has receded quite a bit even since we got here a couple of hours ago, but I want to show you this home behind me. Those home owners haven’t been able to come back yet because there’s still plenty of water. But if you look up at the top, a bare roof. You can see where the water was. It was almost completely over this home. We were talking to a homeowner earlier. She took us inside her home. There is nothing left. And the sad part is she didn’t have any flood insurance. Another problem that a lot of these homeowners are facing is they need to be very careful when they go back to their homes.

 

Earlier we’re going to show you video of a home that exploded. It was a gas explosion apparently when crews are going through trying to shut off gas and electric, they missed this one. That house exploded was on fire, and then they cautioned everyone just be careful, so these crews came out here. They were able to shut off the electricity…..I’m sorry, the gas to that home. And I want to show you what it looks like now we have live streaming video of that home to show you what it looks like. Yeah, because fire fighters said they couldn’t get back in there to get it completely out until the gas was shut off. And those crews were working for about four or five hours trying to get it off. You know?

 

I remember there were so many buildings that went up in flames for similar reasons in the aftermath of the flood in New Orleans. And in the very worst areas in New Orleans, I don’t think I ever saw house that had water all the way up as high as that. There may have been some, but you couldn’t see them from where we were. I wonder if this area where you are right now, is it area that is prone to flooding? Because some of the areas that flooded in Atlanta had never flooded before.

 

Very true, and this is one of them. The homeowner I talked to earlier, they said hey, I don’t have flood insurance. She lives right here. She said I don’t have flood insurance because they told us we didn’t live in a flood plain. She said so, I….. I didn’t think I needed flood insurance. And we’re talking hundreds of homes in this area. They’re just like this one. I mean she’s going to have to start all over. Shep? That’s horrible. Same thing happened in south Mississippi. Residents after residents said we’re not in the flood zone. They told me I didn’t need flood insurance. All of a sudden I do.
