<긴급 재해> 지구 재앙 지진 스나미

On our broadcast tonight, twin crisis. As Mother Nature goes on a rampage, two disasters thousands of miles apart and now thousands are feared dead. The new risk tonight for the men and women across our country who care for others everyday how they are coping with swine flu. The right to own a gun. A new showdown now over one of America’s longest ever legal battles. And a charm offensive by the first lady. She’s overseas tonight to sell her home town and she brought along a few friends. Nightly News begins now. From NBC News world headquarters in New York, this is NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams.

Good evening. Out of nowhere and just over the last 24 hours, the fury of Mother Nature has struck in two different places 5000 miles apart, both disasters are along the so called Pacific Ring of Fire where 90% of the earth seismic activity takes place. We are still assessing the death and damage from a major quake in Sumatra off Indonesia in the Indian Ocean. Sadly that’s where the Banda Aceh tsunami struck almost five years ago. And aid is rushing into the Samoa is where Americans are among the injured and dead after an underwater quake sent a wall of water clashing down on those islands

Welcome to World News. Tonight, paradise lost. That south pacific tsunami has caused more than 100 deaths and major damage. Utter(철저한) devastation on paradise islands. Shutting down. GM pulls the plug on Sedan after an effort to save the car division hits the dead-end. Game on. Michelle Obama and the city of Chicago begin to make their pitch for the Olympics. And our chief medical editor learns just how extraordinary is the level of healthcare for the congress. From ABC news headquarters, this is World News with Charles Gibson.

Good evening. Major earthquakes are like no other force of nature. And in the past 24 hours, we have seen how destructive they can be. Yesterday, an 8.0 earthquake struck the south pacific between Samoa and American Samoa triggering a Tsunami. Residents said they had little or no warning to escape the waves. And the death toll now tops 100. Hours later and 6,000 miles away, an earthquake measuring 7.6 struck off the coast of Sumatra. Scores are dead there. But we begin with the tsunami.

ABC’s Neal Karlenski is in Samoa.
