(우주) 달을 쏘다

Shooting the moon. Just what happened this morning and did NASA accomplish its mission? NASA crashed Lander rocket into the moon. We were told the direct hit would send a 6-mile high plume of dust, rock and ice and we would get to see it on live TV. We waited, we watched, and when it was over, we asked was that it? It was less than spectacular, but evidently it yielded결과를 가져오다 spectacular results. Our report from NBC’s Tom Costello.

After years of hard work and high anticipation, it all came down to this. At 7:31 eastern time, NASA centaur 점화 가능한 액체연료엔진 rocket slammed into a crater분화구 on the lunar south pole at 3,500 mph. But despite expectations of a grand explosion, “we should be looking for some signs of the impact”, nothing. In Boulder, Colorado, a group of school kids woke up before 5 AM for the big event. “But I didn’t see any plume연기기둥 or anything.

Louise wasn’t alone. No one saw the plume of dust, rock and ice depicted묘사하다 in the NASA animation. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t one. NASA insists it was a great success. “I think the science colleagues and exploration colleagues around the world are just dazzled감탄하다.” Dazzled because NASA has thermal imaging of the explosion and photos showing the crater. This mission is all about ice and water. Finding it could prove crucial for a future moon base and provide new answers about the solar system. Out of sight! Though you couldn’t see it that moon rocket hit a bulls-eye과녁의 중앙, it will be weeks before we know if it hit pay dirt수지 맞는 사금 채취지.. Two NASA spacecrafts slammed into the moon right on schedule this morning on a mission to search for hidden ice, but the huge explosion of lunar dust that space watchers were hoping to see didn’t materialize실현하다. Still, NASA scientists say they are excited to start analyzing the instruments and images. Ryan Owens tonight is at the Johnson Space Center in Huston. With thousands of space junkies잡동사니 peering through희미하게 보이다 telescopes and millions more watching worldwide, viewers did catch a glimpse of the rockets speeding past stars at nearly 6,000 miles an hour. But at the point of impact, a fuzzy불분명한 screen.  Nothing like the spectacular debris show NASA's animation promised. “Well, I was certainly disappointed individuals. I would have loved to have seen something. That doesn’t mean that the mission wasn’t successful.” In fact, NASA says the rocket was a bulls-eye hitting the coldest spot on the moon where scientists believe ice is most likely to form knocking up the dust to see if there is water in it. If they do discover water, it will make it far easier for man to finally return to the moon. And NASA is eager to get astronauts behind the wheel of the lunar rover, and once again, exploring earth’s next-door neighbor.
