We have a closer look at a divisive불화를 일으키는 case on religion taken up by the Supreme Court today. At issue was a cross erected as a war memorial in federal property in California. Supporters argue it’s simply a little cross in the desert. But congress has designated지정하다 this display as a national memorial like Mountain Rushmore or the Washington Monument. Supporters of the cross say the man who put it up were not particularly religious, but saw the cross, instead, as the universal symbol of sacrifice. Frank Bruno, a practicing종교적 실천을 하고 있는 Catholic who used to work in the Mojave National Preserve filed the suit. “For people to argue that it is a universal symbol of death and sacrifice is Alice in Wonderland. I mean it is a symbol of death and sacrifice only the extent that it symbolizes death and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.”
The courts agreed with Bruno, but then congress voted to transfer the one acre on which the cross sits into private hand, so it could stay up. A move opponents want the Supreme Court to reject. “My grandfather was a World War veteran. He is not and can’t be commemorated and honored through a religious symbol that says Jesus is the son of god and he died on the cross to redeem의무를 이행하다 mankind for his sense.”
