레바논 국경상황 <BBC 특집>

Hello and welcome to the Israeli Port of Haifa. It’s been a very busy day here in northern Israel. Throughout the morning, I’ve been hearing the sound of shells 포탄 firing into southern Lebanon as Israel pushes forward with its ground offensive 공격. Almost every hour, every minute almost, we’ve heard the sound of shells landing in southern Lebanon. Israel is pouring thousands of men into the area.

They are very busy indeed trying to push at least 7 km into southern Lebanon. That’s an area, of course, which they say is full of Hezbollah fighters. They want to root them out 근절하다. They want to push them back at least 30 km from the border to stop them firing rockets into northern Israel. Let’s get the very latest details now from our correspondent upon the Lebanese border, Richard Bilson.

Lined along the border, ready to move forward. Israel’s army in enormous numbers is now here on its northern frontier 국경. Men in machinery <집합적> 기계류 either waiting to push across the border into Lebanon or already there. By the end of today, along with all this machinery, there will be more than 20,000 Israeli soldiers here in the border area.

And these are the men who led this latest offensive. Israeli soldiers crossing into Lebanon last night. In the 3 weeks since this war started, Israeli forces have met fierce resistance from Hezbollah. That is why so many are involved now.

The Israeli government says it has no long-term invasion plans, but this operation is important. South Lebanon side of the border is now taking a fearful pounding 연타, 세게 . There’s a feeling here that there’re perhaps only a few days of fighting left before a diplomatic cease-fire 정전, 휴전 kicks in 작동하다, 효력을 나타내다. By shell, by air, and with soldiers, Israel is determined to use those days to drive Hezbollah as far away as possible.
