Good evening? These are tough times for American automakers and for Ford Motor Company, and especially its workers. The situation just got even tougher. Today, the company announced a huge cut in production, the biggest in more than 20 years. The announcement came only months after a previous cutback <인원·생산 등의> 축소, 삭감 that was supposed to ease 완화시키다, 덜다 its financial problems.

 

Here’re the numbers tonight. Ford will slash production by 21% this fall, that’s about 168,000 vehicles. Year to date 새해부터 지금까지, 연초대비, Ford sales are down nearly 10% over last year with a big drop in sales of those gas-guzzling 기름을 꿀꺽꿀꺽 마시는 SUVs and trucks. The production cuts reflect the new reality. In July, for the first time, Toyota surpassed 능가하다, ~보다 낫다 Ford in US sales. At the Chicago plant, workers wonder what it all means for them. “It really doesn’t look good. You don’t look good.” In a memo to employees today, CEO Bill Ford Jr. acknowledged the pain, writing “No one can be pleased by the severity 괴로움, 쓰라림 of this cut…” The biggest in more than 2 decades, but he added it will make a sturdier 튼튼한 foundation for the future.
