Countdown to Vancouver. The final preparation for tomorrow night’s opening ceremony here in Vancouver are nearly complete. But many of the events will take place about 70 miles north of the city at Whistler Mountain. Natalie is there for us. Hey, Nat? Good morning again, Meredith. An Olympic fever has hit hard here at Whistler. Of course, the host mountain for the alpine cross country skilling and sliding events. And starting tomorrow night, they’re expecting about 17,000 visitors here a day.
Just over 70 miles north of Vancouver nestled in the picturesque coast mountains of British Columbia lies Whistler Mountain, one of the premiere ski resorts in the world. And Whistler is ready to host the world. In fact, it was ready two years ago when construction there was completed, the first time that venues스포츠경기 장소 have been finished so far in advance of a winter games. “We’ve had two years to test these courses and two years for the athletes to get to know them a little better, so the competition is really exceptional.”
Competition that will take place at three different venues within Whistler including creek side with a newly designed downhill course for alpine skilling. Whistler Olympic Park which will host the Nordic events like cross country and ski jumping. And the Whistler sliding center for events like bobsled and luge일인용 썰매 that features a track with a larger vertical drop than any other track in the world.
Of the 86 events over the 17 days, 57 of them will take place here in Whistler. And the winning athletes will receive their medals right behind me here at medal’s plaza in the heart of Whistler village.
A village that actually heats up when the sun goes down. And the fire and ice show, a spectacle that will take place every night at these games at the base of the mountain. So anyone here to revel흥청대다 in the thrill of competition and celebrate these winter games will find a very ready Whistler Mountain.
“Three billion eyes are going to be watching these games. Athletes were thrilled at the course in the venues and I know the visitors are going to be thrilled with what they find here.” So Meredith?
