멕시코 Graffiti 축제, 젊은 재능 발산

Now something for the creative among you. Graffiti <공중 화장실·건물 등의 벽에 있는> 낙서 artists are being given free rein 멋대로 하게하다 in Mexico City this weekend. It’s all part of the competition to showcase 소개하다 new talent. Hundreds of people have grabbed a piece of wall and cans of paint in the hope of winning the top prize.

 

In most cities, this kind of behavior would land you in jail or at least out of pocket 자금이 없는 after a heavy fine 벌금. But these pictures tell a very different story in Mexico City. This is a national graffiti meeting and it has the blessing of the local authorities 현지 당국 who see it as a way of promoting youth talent.

 

200 people are competing in the event and they come from as far away as Los Angeles, New York, Chile, and the Dominican Republic. There’re 4 categories, fantastic creations, wild style, realism, and of course, free style. And the canvases range from brick walls to cars.

 

There’s cash to be won. But to the artists, it’s a way of expressing themselves that they hope others will understand and appreciate 감상하다. “I think that is something that we enjoy. We show our ideas. It’s a free expression for people who pass through. I look to transmit something to the common people.”

 

The overall winner will take home $800 US. Second and third place get $500 and $300 respectively 각각, 제각기. And organizers hope that this event will take graffiti artists off the streets and into the art galleries. Wendy Urquhart, BBC News.
