So now it comes down to declare a favorite.

Jenny Wolf of Germany, the dominant skater now for years in this event.

Can she put it all together in her third Olympics? She’s never even won an Olympic medal.

But she is expected to win gold and now 31 years old.

You just wonder how many great opportunities you have.

The right next to her on the inner is Lee Sung Hwa of Korea,

turns 21 years old on Sunday.

And we’ve already seen success from the man in the 5000 meters where they got a silver.

And then Mo Tae Bum won the gold in this 500 meters men’s race yesterday.

So Wong has the lead as Wolf and Lee are the final, too.

And Dan, I expect both of these skaters to take the top two times. They just need to skate under 38.3 to take gold and silver.

I believe they will do that. However if Jenny Wolf is to win Gold, she has to win this pairing by 7/ 100 of seconds.

Wolf will finish on the inner and has said that she’s just not that great on that last inner, one of the weaknesses in her repertoire.

But it’s come down to these 38 seconds herself for Jenny Wolf to see if she’ll finally be an Olympic Gold Medalist. A very fast 100, 10.1, 10.2 and she does. That’s much more like it 10.1 for her. Now she is going to have a good chase. Oh she is in the lead right now.

This is a good position for her.

But as you said, last inner is the question mark. But see how it goes for her.

Three-time reigning world champion has done it all in this sport except win an Olympic Medal.

Jenny Wolf will finish on the inner. It’s a really good last inner turn for Jenny Wolf.

It’s 7/100 of a knock. It’s going to be….she’s done. My goodness……and Lee comes down with a strong one,

but it’s Lee who ends up stealing it from everyone including Wolf and the final skate.

So Korea continues some incredible success here at the Oval.

So Lee Sung Hwa wins Gold by 5/100 of a second after combining both runs.

Jenny Wolf did win that pairing. She’s pleased with that,

but it wasn’t buy enough to take the Gold Medal.

Korea’s first ever female Olympic speed skating medalist in long track is a gold medalist and here they came down the final turn.

And Jenny Wolf did exactly what she needed to do…. had a great last inner turn,

but starts to tire a little bit what she intends to do.

Lee Sung Hwa stays just close enough at the end to take gold after the combine.

So close. Korea had a total of two speed skating long track medals in Olympic history.

Coming into these games, now they have three alone at these Olympic Games.

That close… 2/100 of a second separate the final pair as you mentioned.

Wolf did win this final pair, but combing the two races, it is Lee who comes out on top by 5/100. Amazing.

That momentum that the Koreans had from the men’s 5000 meters is just keeps going and going.

Now three medals already for the Koreans.

So it’s Lee, Wolf, and Wong in the women’s 500 meters.

Lee Sung Hwa wins the second straight 500 meters for Korea.

<The End>
