As today, survivors seek food and children seek their parents, and the government of Chile pleads for help. From the global resources of ABC news, this is ABC world news with Dian Saywer! And good evening to all of you! We had word that as of tonight, more than 720 people have died in that earthquake in Chile. More than a million are homeless. And we also learned today that that 8.8 magnitude quake was so powerful, the earth actually shook for a moment on its axis! And Good Morning, welcome to Today on a Monday morning, I’m Matt Rauer. And I’m Marith Vierra. We had two and a half weeks or two plus weeks that were great in Vancouver. But it is so good to be home. Did you oversleep, this one? You didn’t! Oh… I did a little bit! We’re going to talk about the closing ceremony which I watched on TV last night. It was terrific! But of course we’re also following the latest on Saturday’s 8.8 magnitude earthquake in Chile. It was huge and here is the latest this morning. The country’s president has called it catastrophe of unthinkable magnitude as the death toll has now soared to at least 708.
