서부의 지진 준비 태세

And are we any better prepared at vulnerable spots here in the US? From NBC News world headquarters in New York, this is NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams. Someday it will happen to us. That’s the message, experts say, Americans living in earthquake country should take from the disasters in Chile and Haiti. “An earthquake like we saw in Chile could easily happen in the pacific northwest.” The great Chilean earthquake and tsunami could be duplicated in an area called the Cascadia Subduction Zone that runs from British Columbia to northern California.

But a more immediate concern is what happens along the southern part of California’s San Andrea’s Fault단층. The US geological survey says California faces a 94% probability of a magnitude 7.0 or greater quake in the next 30 years. “Regional disaster will occur because a large earthquake is in our future.” San Bernardino is celebrating its bicentennial 200. During those 200 years, the southern end of the San Andrea’s Fault has not ruptured파열. But earthquake scientists warn that could change any day now.

A big worry, 100 old Mason Rebuilding is in the center of town. Because of the poor economy here, the city repealed폐지 an ordinance법령 requiring them to be reinforced. To the northwest is the Cajon Pass, a vital California lifeline carrying interstate highway traffic, rail traffic, power oil and natural gas supplies. Those would all be cut in a big quake.

“That would be an instantaneous즉각적인 shift in the ground. Roughly 15 feet of displacement이동.” One scenario, a 7.8 earthquake here would lead 1800 people dead. A sobering어두운 심각한 thought for Californians as they consider what happened to Chile and Haiti. George Louis, NBC News, San Bernardino, California.
